History of the Comb Factory
- Albert Laretei began making combs in Tartu in 1918.
- In 1922, combs were made in a small shed, where Albert Laretei had two assistants.
- In the early years, combs were made from cattle horn.
- Later, England became the main buyer of Tartu's combs, though they were also exported to other European countries.
- Raw materials and supplies were imported mainly from Japan, Italy, France, and the United States.
- In 1932, English businessman Max Reich bought the comb factory, and exports expanded further.
- Max Reich began consolidating the factory at what is now ESTIKO-PLASTAR's location on Teguri Street.

Over the years, the factory also produced fountain-pen nibs, toothbrushes, eyeglass frames, cigarette holders, hair clips, technical products, table-tennis balls, soap dishes and holders, toothbrush cases, toys (such as rattles), various household items (buckets, rakes), motorcycle helmets, and plastic film and bags.
